A PEN Perth poetry night highlighting Sudanese writers.
Tuesday, 23 November 2021
6:30PM–7:30PM
Join us for a night of poetry as we acknowledge the resistance of the Sudanese people and raise awareness of the artists currently imprisoned due to 25 October 2021 military coup. There will be readings in Arabic and English, with plenty of open mic spots, so bring along works from Sudanese poets that inspire you or choose from one of the poems provided on the night!
(Although the event will have poems in Arabic and English, Sudan is a multilingual, multi-ethnic nation, with creative works in many Indigenous languages. We would welcome any work from any members of the Sudanese community and our South Sudanese siblings.)
We acknowledge that this event is held in Boorloo, on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar and pay our respects to all First Nations people across this continent, their resilience and resistance.
In solidarity with Sudanese writers, journalists and poets Faisal Mohammed Salih, Alhaj Warag, Mohamed Elfaki and Faiz Elsileek.
Guests poets include: Vivienne Glance, Rafeif Ismail, David Moody, Dennis Haskell and Afeif Ismail.
This is a free event, but please RSVP.
